Expressing yourself with the written word is hard work.  It takes time and dedication. It takes a rare combination of industry and creativity.  You might ask, “Why even bother?”  There are lots of answers: it’s worth all the blood, sweat, and tears; it one of the best ways to tap into your heart and soul; if it were easy, everyone would do it. All of these are true, even if they may not be enough to get you to pick you your pen.

Let’s be honest. There is more to it than that.

Each and everyone of us have thoughts, ideas, and emotions worth sharing.  Putting those thoughts, ideas, and emotions down on paper are worth the difficulty. Those thoughts, ideas, emotions represent you as a person. They represent your legacy. Bringing clarity to this wonderful, complicated, unique pool of stuff is a gift that writing makes possible.

“I can say it far easier than I can write it.”  We hear this all the time. And for many people, this is true. That’s why there are ghostwriters like our team at Mark Graham Communications that make the process doable. You say it, we write it.

Then there is this: writing does more than allow us to put words down on paper. Writing is a means of processing. Writing is a means of moving from your head to your heart and back again. Writing allows us to express what is unique about our individual perspective.  What a gift!

We also hear people say, “I’m not disciplined enough to write.” It is true that writing is the great equalizer when it comes to discipline, because it doesn’t happen by itself.  Harnessing this wayward discipline is also a gift. Sitting down and demanding of yourself the time and presence of mind to put pen to paper is a wonderful thing. And yes, it can be just as rewarding to sit down with a ghostwriter and verbally put pen to paper. We have seen the power of this collaboration, and we also have come to understand that such a collaboration does nothing to diminish the final product. In most cases, it enhances the final product.

Writing is hard work, but the results can never be diminished. They have no half-life. Your thoughts, ideas, and emotions can never be taken away from you when they are written down. Do the hard work or do the hard work of collaborating with someone who can manifest a beautifully written piece that represents your head and heart.
